FAQ’s about ADHD + Autism Support Group

What if I don't want to share about my personal life? Will I be required to talk a lot?

Nope! Because this is a skills/support group versus a therapy/processing group, you won't be required to disclose personal struggles or share much about yourself. You can still gain a lot from a skills group due to its educational nature.

Do I have to keep my screen on the whole time?

No - I understand that sometimes it's difficult to focus or feel authentic when you're being observed. I encourage everyone to keep their screens on as much as they can, but if you need a moment or simply can't that day, it's all right.

I get social anxiety. Groups aren't usually my thing... How will I be comfortable?

Great question! The main reason I believe this group would be doable is because it's a virtual skills group, not an in-person or a therapy/processing group. What this means is you won't have to deal with the typical small-talk interactions before or after group. You also won't be forced to share if you don't want to. You can observe and learn even with minimal verbal interaction. (Also, I really identify with this myself. I have always found groups really challenging at first. However, after being in several different types of groups myself, I've found they are always very rewarding.)

What is Spoons Theory?

Spoon Theory is a metaphor used to explain what it’s like to live with chronic illness, disability, or limited energy. It was created by Christine Miserandino in 2003 to describe her experience with lupus. In the metaphor, “spoons” represent units of energy; each daily task costs a spoon, and once they’re gone, they’re gone—requiring careful planning and prioritizing. The concept is now widely used in chronic illness, disability, and neurodivergent communities to communicate energy limitations.

I'll be adding more FAQ's over the next few days!
